In spite of the layers of summer-weight clothing we piled on, we were still cold at breakfast this morning. I know, we should have just given up and moved inside, but hey…breakfast on the Ajijic Plaza is our Saturday morning tradition, and we toughed it out on the coldest morning of the year.
We were lingering over multiple cups of steaming coffee when our day was brightened and warmed with the shy sweet smiles and the splash of color from the costumes worn by a young Mexican couple – dancers from Ixtlahuacan’s Ballet Folklorico.
They paused and visited for a moment as they passed from table to table promoting their upcoming January 24, February 7 and March 7 noon performances of regional dances from Michoacán, Jalisco, Yucatan and the Maya in the Auditorio de la Ribera. (The auditorium is right on the highway, about 1/2 block east of Bugambilias Mall in Ajijic.)
This troupe of dancers are known for their lively performances and exquisite costumes, but it was their talent and precise movements that made them the champions of the Jalisco state folkloric dance competition.
If you are entertaining out-of-town guests, are a snowbird here for a few months, or even a long-time resident, be sure to attend one of these upcoming Sunday shows. There’s nothing like a good troupe of Mexican folkloric dancers to lift your mood and make your week with their brilliant smiles, flashing eyes, colorful costumes, exciting live music, and energetic, fast-paced swirling dance moves.
Not only do we promise that these performances be the highlight of your winter, they’re the best deal in town –tickets at just $100 pesos (that’s only $8 US) are available at the auditorium and at SuperLake.
See you there!
