How do I get UKCP accreditation?

To become accredited through UKCP, you must apply through one of our accrediting organisations. Like our training organisations, accrediting organisations are grouped under ten UKCP colleges representing different psychotherapy approaches, client groups, or settings.

How do I register with UKCP?

The most usual route to UKCP membership is through training with one of our member organisations. Once you’ve completed your training, you’ll automatically be able to apply for UKCP membership. While you’re training, you may be able to join UKCP as a student or trainee member.

How do I become a Physcotherapist?

To practise as an adult psychotherapist, you’ll need to undertake appropriate recognised training. You’ll usually need an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject and/or be a qualified and experienced healthcare practitioner, such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, mental health nurse or social worker.

How many hours do I need for BACP accreditation?

completed at least 450 hours of supervised practice, accumulated over three to six years (which don’t have to be consecutive). At least 150 of these hours must have been after successfully completing all your practitioner training.

Can you be a Counsellor without BACP accreditation?

Your course does not have to be BACP-accredited, but if it’s not you’ll need to take our Certificate of Proficiency before you can progress to become a registered member or be eligible for our accreditation scheme.

Do you have to register with the UKCP?

Our register is voluntary. Therapists do not have to register with UKCP or any other organisation, which means that anyone can call themselves a psychotherapist. Choosing a therapist who is UKCP-registered gives you reassurance about their training and qualifications.

Our register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. To find out if a therapist is registered with UKCP, you can search our UKCP register. If the therapist is a member of UKCP but still in training they won’t appear on the register, but you can find them in our separate directory of trainee members.

How long do passwords have to be for UKCP?
